Joss Releases Dr. Horrible News

June 28th, 2008

Over on Whedonesque, Joss Whedon posted news about the release schedule for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. You’ll want to be at your computer to see Dr. Horrible on the following days:

“ACT ONE (Wheee!) will go up Tuesday July 15th.

ACT TWO (OMG!) will go up Thursday July 17th.

ACT THREE (Denouement!) will go up Saturday July 19th.”

He also wants us to help spread the word across the net and beyond. It’s already got a Digg for you to add your Dugg. Time to get to work, this is a groundbreaking event in the world of entertainment, and we are involved from the start.

“Spread the word. Rock some banners, widgets, diggs… let people know who wouldn’t ordinarily know. It wouldn’t hurt if this really was an event. Good for the business, good for the community – communitIES: Hollywood, internet, artists around the world, comic-book fans, musical fans (and even the rather vocal community of people who hate both but will still dig on this). Proving we can turn Dr Horrible into a viable economic proposition as well as an awesome goof will only inspire more people to lay themselves out in the same way. It’s time for the dissemination of the artistic process. Create more for less. You are the ones that can make that happen.” - Joss Whedon, from Whedonesque

How to be a Sellout (and make it a good thing)

June 3rd, 2008

The SoCal and San Diego Browncoats want you to help us be a sellout.

Of the Can’t Stop the Serenity screenings.

And we’re going to give you an incentive by rewarding the first city to sell out with some special prizes. These prizes will be going into the Thank You drawing so everyone who helped sell out the theater has a chance to win.

We have 2 very cool prizes so far, and hope to add more.

  • Serenity Bank Heist Money Uncut sheet donated by Quantum Mechanix
  • SoCal Browncoats logo shirt signed by Mark Sheppard

If you are wondering what the status of sales are at this point, Los Angeles is in the lead, followed by Orange County and then San Diego. But LA also has the most tickets to sell, followed by OC and then SD. Any surge of tickets sales for any city will put them in the lead.

Now get out there and get those tickets sold for your city! (Down-loadable flyers are here)

Exclusive Quantum Mechanix Live Auction at SoCal CSTS Screenings

May 31st, 2008

Quantum Mechanix is continuing the tradition of the Serenity Blueprint live auction that raised $500 for Equality Now in 2007. Only now it’s going to be twice as big!

QMx is donating 2 rare “Little Damn Hero” Serenity character prototype maquettes (small statues) to be auctioned live during the Los Angeles and Orange County screenings.

  • At the Los Angeles screening QMx will be auctioning the “Aim to Misbehave” Little Damn Hero Maquette Prototype (based on our own Cap’n Mal).
  • At the Orange County screening QMx will be auction the “My Turn” Little Damn Hero Maquette Prototype (based on River).

More photos of the maquettes at the bottom of this post.

These maquettes are prototypes created by QMx that are based on fan favorite artist Adam Levermore-Rich’s famous designs. The rarity of these items is unbelievable. First, there are only 3 of each in existence, and 1 of each now belongs to Adam. So that means QMx is letting go of 1 of only 2 that they have left. Next, you have the catch-phrases on the base, which will not be on the production models. And lastly, on the River maquette, the axe is being held upside down, and will be turned back up on the production version.

This means you have a chance to own what are likely two of the rarest Serenity collectibles to date. If you don’t have your tickets to the Los Angeles or Orange County Screenings, what are you waiting for?!?!

The SoCal Browncoats are honored that Quantum Mechanix continues to support our Can’t Stop The Serenity screenings with such rare and special items.
